REVEALED: Why Pep Guardiola didn’t shake the hand of Cesc Fabregas

PEP GUARDIOLA has denied that he snubbed Cesc Fabregas following Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester City at the weekend.

The Spanish boss, 45, immediately marched onto the field to confront referee Anthony Taylor after Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho had both seen red in stoppage time.

And he appeared to shun the offer of a hand from his former player Fabregas, who he coached at Barcelona during the 2011-12 season.

But Guardiola says he saw the Blues’ midfielder in the dressing room afterwards – after he didn’t notice him on the field.

He explained: “I said hello to Cesc in the dressing room.
“On the field I didn’t realise he was trying to greet me.”

Guardiola was fuming as Aguero and Fernadinho saw red in added time, with his team falling apart late on to give Chelsea the edge at the top of the Premier League.

But the City boss didn’t want to get himself in trouble and refused to comment on the Taylor’s performance.

He added: “I don’t want to speak about the referee in the match either, it is best not too.

“We have to accept Sergio Aguero’s absence and work with other players.’

“I am very happy with the way we played,’

“Against Chelesa we played a lot better than the last two games at home against Crystal Palace and Burnley.”

City face Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday having already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition.

The travel to struggling champions Leicester on Saturday, looking to get their title charge back on track.
